Calaveras
The ridge crest running east from Mt. Reba makes excellent day hiking. The Bee Gukch Trail connects Round Valley to Lake Alpine and is part of the "Tahoe-Yosemite Trail" route. The Calaveras Ranger District has several small to medium sized lakes ideal for non-motorized or low-speed (below 10 mph) motorized boating. Kayak, canoe and row boat rentals are available.

Lake Alpine is a small, scenic reservoir located just east of the community of Bear Valley on State Highway 4, at an elevation of 7,350 feet. It is the central attraction of the "Lake Alpine Recreation Complex" and includes 5 developed campgrounds and a boat launch.

Gateway communities include Arnold and Bear Valley on the west side of the Sierra, and Markleville on the east side.
