Baxter offers recreactional opportunties for naturalists, mountain climbers, hikers, and photographers. Those interested in Baxter's geology will be pleasantly surprised with the rhyolite, Katahdin granite and many fossil types. There is an abundance of bird and wildlife, as well as a plentitude of mountain peaks and ridges. In fact, there are 46 mountain peaks and ridges, 18 of which exceed and elevtion of 3,000 feet, the highest being Baxter Peak at 5,267 feet. The park offers about 175 miles of trails.
