Beech Fork State Park

Located south of Huntington at the upper end of Beech Fork Lake, this park offers excellent camping, fishing and boat launching facilities on a 720-acre body of water. The lake itself was designed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and was constructed for the purposes of flood control, fish and wildlife conservation and general recreation. A modern visitors center, which includes a camper's store and a meeting room, welcomes guests to the park and its 275-unit modern, deluxe campground. Hiking trails, picnicking, game courts and a summer weekend activities program are available for both campers and day use visitors. The 3,981-acre park is adjacent to an additional 10,000 acres of public hunting land.

Recommended Activities

  • Hike one of Beech Fork's 4 trails for hikers of all levels: Overlook trail winds up, with some steep grades, a long ridge to a pleasing overlook; Lakeview trail poses the least difficulty for a leisurely walk, taking you along the side of a ridge; Lost trail is the longest, most strenuous trail, open to hikers and mountain bikes; Physical Fitness trail offers a challenging series of exercise stations for those who wish to test their fitness.
