Brazos Bend State Park

Brazos River floodplains, upland coastal prairies, freshwater marshes and six lakes provide abundant opportunities for

wildlife viewing, camping, picnicking, hiking, biking, and fishing. Covering 4897 acres, and with 3 miles of Brazos riverfront, the park delights birders, campers, and other outdoor enthusiasts with an observation tower and platforms for wildlife observation/photography of more than 270 species of birds sighted; 21 species of reptiles and amphibians - including American alligator - and 23 species of mammals including bobcat, white-tailed deer, raccoon, gray fox, and feral hog. The lakes are easily accessible to fishermen, with lighted piers and fish-cleaning tables. The area is historically significant as it was the location of Texas' first Anglo colonization. George Observatory, a satellite of the Houston Museum of Natural Science, provides stargazing programs in the park.
