Buffalo Bill State Park

The majestic peaks of the Absaroka Mountains dominate the scenery at Buffalo Bill State Park, an area where outdoor recreation is a way of life and opportunities abound for camping, picnicking, boating and fishing. Shoshone Canyon, the location of the dam, is framed by Rattlesnake Mountain to the north and Cedar Mountain (also known as Spirit Mountain) to the south.

Recommended Activities

  • Hike the Trout Creek Nature Trail, a 1/4 mile walk through an aquatic habitat on the west side of Trout Creek along the Shoshone River.
  • top at the Buffalo Bill Dam Visitor Center and take a while to learn about Colonel William F. "Buffalo Bill" Cody, who gave his name to this historic park and the adjacent town.
