David Crockett State Park

Pioneer, soldier, politician, and industrialist, the renowned Davy Crockett moved to Lawrence County in 1817 and established a diversified industry along the banks of Shoal Creek, within what is now the 1100-acre David Crockett State Park. A park museum depicts the life and times of Crockett as pioneer in this area, and an environmental classroom shelter overlooks the area where Crocketts' powdermill, gristmill, and distillery operations were located on Shoal Creek below Crockett Falls. Davy Crockett Days, in August, is a living history demonstration of an encampment of Longhunters (frontiersmen) and traders set in the early 1800's. Visitors see shelters, clothing, tools, and other items that were used by the early settlers of the Tennessee frontier. Forty-acre Lindsey lake provides year-round fishing enjoyment, and visitors can expect catches of bass, crappie, bluegill and catfish. A paved bicycle trail carries you through woods where you may see deer, squirrels, rabbits and turkey.

Recommended Activities

  • Rent a boat and try your luck at fishing for bass and catfish.
  • Ride the paved bicycle trail through deep woods.
  • Learn from the pioneer living history demonstrations, and explore the site of Davy Crockett's early industrial operations.
