Sawtooth National Forest

Located in central Idaho, lies the Sawtooth National Forest encompassing 2.1 million acres. The season of the year makes no difference as the Sawtooth is a "Forest For All Seasons". Nearby lies the Sawtooth National Recreation Area and the Sawtooth Wilderness. Within the boundaries of the 754,000 acre Recreation area lie portions of four mountain ranges, the headwaters of five major rivers and over 1,000 lakes.

Recommended Activities

  • Follow one of the many snowshoe trails on the North Trail, and a section near Prairie Creek, and the Galena Lodge ski area which also has snowshoeing trails.
  • Visit in the fall and see a pleasant change to the Sawtooth. Spectacular color displays occur in areas where aspen, cottonwood, and willow trees abound.
