From alpine summit to rainforest coastline, this mountain park on the island of Maui encompasses outstanding volcanic landscapes on the upper slopes of Mount Haleakala, the unique and fragile ecosystems of the Kipahulu Valley, scenic pools along Oheo Gulch, and many rare and endangered species. Of the 28,655 acres of extremely diverse habitats included within the park boundaries, 19,270 are designated Wilderness.

At least 2 hours are required for the briefest of visits to the top of Haleakala, to drive up to the summit and back to the entrance, and longer if you plan to hike or attend natural or cultural history programs. It is possible to spend all day, or a few minutes, enjoying the pools and scenic beauty of Kipahulu. Make time to visit the ranger stations, take a short hike, or go for a picnic.
