Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness ![]() The Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness is located within the Payette National Forest and the Bitterroot National Forest. This 2.4-million-acre Wilderness is the largest in the continental United States and is managed by 4 National Forests. The Bitterroot Forest's portion includes approximately 194,000 acres, or 8% of the area. The Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness borders the 1.3-million-acre Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness, separated only by the Nez Perce Trail corridor. Included within the Bitterroot portion is the headwaters of the Selway Wild River, which is a segment of the Middle Fork of the Clearwater Wild and Scenic River System. A segment of the Salmon Wild River forms the southern border of this portion of the Bitterroot National Forest. Physically and biologically this area is similar to the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness, with one of its unique features being the "breaks" of the Salmon River.
