Waterfall Glen Preserve ![]() Waterfall Glen Forest Preserve has the most diverse plant and animal populations, contains the most rugged local landscape, and is one of DuPage County's largest forest preserves. Quite simply, Waterfall Glen may be the most astonishing parcel of open space in DuPage County, if not northern Illinois. Waterfall Glen provides visitors with some of the best hiking, cross-country skiing, horseback riding, and bicycling in DuPage County. The four main loop trails range from two to more than eight and a half miles in length and meander through some of Waterfall Glen's most scenic areas. Although the preserve is not known for its fishing, any angler willing to hike down to the Des Plaines River along Waterfall Glen's southern border may catch some good-sized rough fish including carp, suckers, and bullheads. Waterfall Glen is host to a bevy of wildlife inhabitants that use the preserve year-round or during migration. Some of the more notable wildlife include white-tailed deer, beaver, southern flying squirrel, Franklin's ground squirrel, coyote, broad-winged hawk, long-eared owl, prothonotary warbler, and eastern and western meadowlark.
