Echo Canyon Recreation Area ![]() Sheer red cliffs, in some places rising 200 feet straight up the side of Camelback Mountain, characterize the 75.8 acre Echo Canyon Recreation Area, making it a favorite for hiking and climbing. There are no facilities at Echo Canyon other than a small parking lot, an interpretive ramada and trails. Parking is limited. The only water fountain is at the trailhead. It is important to note that plants and wildlife are protected in the park and are not to be disturbed or destroyed. Because of urban encroachment, large mammals are not normally seen in the park. Smaller animals populate the park including cottontail rabbits, snakes, lizards, Harris antelope squirrels as well as a variety of birds. Rattlesnakes are common on the trail. If seen, allow them space and time to escape.
