Davy Crockett National Forest

The Crockett National Forest is located where the pine forests of the southeastern US join the blackland prairies of central Texas. The result is a marvelous mix of eastern and western species of birds and other wildlife found nowhere else in the state.

Recommended Activities

  • Follow the primitive Piney Creek Horse Trail that meanders approximately 54 miles through the East Texas pineywoods of the forest
  • Stop off at Ratcliff Lake Recreation Area for a nice day of fishing, boating or camping; there is also an amphitheater for visits during the summer months.
