Look for fall colors wherever you find oaks or aspens. Colors are particularly noticeable in the eastern Sierra, along U.S. Highway 395 between Bridgeport and Bishop. Ironically, some of the most beautifu fall colors you will find in places like Nevada City come from maple trees planted by homesick gold rush settlers who transplanted the maples from the East Coast. Remember, fall colors start in the higher elevations and move down to the lower elevations by late October and early November. But each season is different, so check out the Color Reports at CalPhoto and Plumas County for the latest conditions.
