Robert Kirk Fliegel has been the owner, president and head guide of Discovery Treks since 1991. Robert's passion for the great outdoors extends back to his early youth growing up in California. First, he experienced the High Sierras as a Boy Scout, eventually becoming an Eagle scout and troop instructor. He then pursued a college degree in Geography and Archaeology.
After graduating in 1974 from California State University Northridge he "caught" the travel bug. His adventures have included rafting and wildlife viewing on the Alaska Peninsula, back country skiing in British Columbia, archeology studies on the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico, kayaking the Queen Charlotte Islands of Canada, climbing Haleakala volcano in Hawaii, scuba diving in the Coral Sea, South Pacific, and trekking remote jungles of Papua New Guinea. The trip to New Guinea was especially challenging. He spent a month traveling the remote interior highlands visiting primitive villages and viewing the exotic wildlife. More recently, Robert has been focusing his attention on the Southwest researching and developing new adventures.
