File under, why we can’t have nice things in the outdoors any longer. As the vibrant fall foliage hits peak beauty in the northeastern U.S., small towns are being overrun by hordes of “leaf peepers” — tourists whose mission to capture the perfect Instagram shot is driving locals up the (colorful) walls. In Pomfret, Vermont, where Sleepy Hollow Farm is the ultimate photo destination, residents have had enough of road-blocking, trespassing influencers snapping selfies on their lawns. Despite road closures, these foliage fanatics still flood the area, forcing town officials to intervene. It’s not just Vermont — Franconia, New Hampshire, and other picturesque spots are bracing for the annual tourist invasion. Apparently, autumn is the new apocalypse for small-town locals.
